HOW TO MAKE YOUR DANCE CLASS MORE INCLUSIVE

5 TIPS FOR TEACHING DANCE TO ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES

1. Begin by asking yourself “what would I do if I was teaching a dance class to adults without disabilities.

REFLECTION: Why does it have to be different?

2. Get to know their passions, hobbies and interests. Share personal stories and experiences to build trust!

3. Create opportunities for them to be autonomous, independent and in CHOICE. Allow them to make mistakes.

4. Use the conversations you have to create dance activities and choreography. Use “adult” analogies and real world examples.

5. Challenge their mindset by asking questions that allow for reflection and consideration.

Extra - then have a great open conversation about it!
